New York (Usa) – In una serata di gala che si è tenuta il 28 febbraio, quasi 800 professionisti del mondo del giocattolo si sono riuniti per celebrare la 25esima edizione dei Toy of the year (Toty) Awards.
RealFX Disney Stitch Puppetronic (Wow Stuff!) — un personaggio animatronico basato sul popolare personaggio alieno — ha vinto il premio Toy of the year, oltre a portarsi a casa il riconoscimento ‘Giocattolo tecnologico dell’anno’. Story Time Backgammon (Story Time Learning), invece, si è aggiudicato il premio ‘People Choice’ per aver ricevuto il maggior numero di voti online da parte dei consumatori. I Toty Awards sono stati assegnati anche in 16 differenti categorie.

“I Toty Awards celebrano il meglio di ciò che l’industria dei giocattoli ha da offrire: innovazione, immaginazione e la capacità di portare gioia a bambini e famiglie. Congratulazioni a tutti i vincitori e ai candidati per i loro straordinari risultati”, ha commentato Pamela Mastrota, direttore esecutivo della Toy Foundation.
Durante la serata, poi, hanno fatto il loro ingresso della Hall of Fame statunitense del giocattolo le pioniere dell’industria dei giocattoli Maxine Clark, fondatrice ed ex amministratrice delegata di Build-A-Bear Workshop; Sharon DiMinico, fondatrice e presidente di Learning Express Toys; e il professor Erno Rubik, inventore del cubo di Rubik. Speciale tributo postumo anche a Edwin S. Lowe, fondatore di E.S. Lowe and Company; Charles Pajeau, fondatore di Toy Tinker Company e inventore di Tinkertoy; Marty Scheman, amministratore delegato di Illco Toy e presidente di Tyco-Preschool; e Izannah Walker, creatrice di bambole e inventrice americana.
